Great questions Jordan! Yes, we have all mixed those TRD's with other plastics without knowing they would turn into jello. :) You will do best with 3/8" Heat Shrink. They carry it at Ace Hardware stores. I cut it into about 3/16th inch strips. Just take a lighter to it on the worm for like one second on each side of the fold on the heat shrink. It will shrink up perfectly to the worm. Yes, always place them back in the bag you purchased them in. Hunters Headquarters carries them and stocks up on the TRD's nicely.
