Some Duck Creek Catch Data
Duck Creek Lake sits just a bit west of Peru, Nebraska and within easy driving distance of Auburn and Nebraska City. It’s a 60 acre lake nestled in the rolling hills of Southeast Nebraska. Run by the NRD it also has some great camping facilities and very bank fisherman friendly. The lake has been open now for about 7 years and has largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and channel catfish within its depths.
One of the great features of Duck Creek is all the standing timber left when it was built. It also has submerged gravel areas designed for spawning fish. The last few years we have run a Monday Night League there with both adults and youth participating. There is also a Tuesday night league.
The population of smaller bass in the lake seems to be doing quite well according the data below. Most common were bass in the 12 to 14 inch range accounting for and astounding 74% of the total fish photos submitted. There have been a few 20+ inch bass caught but it is not very often. The question raised from the fish photos submitted for judging there seem to a very limited number of 15-18 inch bass. The first year we caught numerous fish in this range. They soon disappeared though and now as you can see from the data we compiled the 12-14 inch bass are the dominating size of fish in the lake.
So what happened? Was it a lot of catching and eating? Disease? Eventually, we will compile these statistics from year to year to see if there is a difference in the number and growth of these fish from a tournament standpoint. Of course, this data is not particularly scientific as it only shows the fish that were submitted. The Nebraska Game and Parks will give us a much better determination when they do their shock surveys. There were most likely more caught but also much smaller. Duck Creek Lake has become a very popular camping and fishing destination that offers some really good panfishing and numerous catfish in the 5-10 pound range. Will the bass continue to grow? We shall see in the next few years.
