With ice melting off most of our Nebraska lakes in the past week there is a great opportunity to throw a line out for some rainbow trout on area ponds and lakes. This past Tuesday brought perfect pre-frontal conditions for some early afternoon fishing at our local city pond in Auburn.
It didn’t take long to catch a few rainbows on a Panther Martin spinner with an ultra-light outfit. With temps in the high 50’s and the water around 40 degrees the fish are starting to become more active. I even caught a small bass and hooked into a nice crappie as well.

Below you will find a list of ponds and lakes that are scheduled to be stocked in the next couple of weeks. As the weather warms up here in Nebraska there should be some nice windows of opportunity to catch trout throughout the state. A fly rod would be a lot of fun or if you prefer, an ultra light spinning combo with 4-6 pound test line. If you wish to relax on the shoreline and have some kiddos with you the old hot dog on a snelled hook and small weight will provide plenty of entertainment.
