With mid October fall conditions the “Catch All You Can” series took to Flanagan Lake for the third event of this series. We started this event back in 2017 and it has had great interest through the years. Adding events and creating an AOY contest has made it even more fun!
We had 16 anglers for this event and a perfect morning for fishing. With fog coming off the lake and the water cooling down the fish were a bit stingy at first but as the day went on the bite seemed to get better. Many anglers used a finesse approach to entice these bass to bite during the day. We had mostly sunny skies and fairly calm conditions for most of the morning before a front started pushing through about noon or so. By 1 p.m. the wind picked up and the bite was very strong for some anglers depending on where they were fishing.
In all, 180 fish were submitted by the 16 anglers with Marty Hughes submitting 44 of them and attaining 518.25 inches which is #2 All Time for these events. This was on a shortened day as well due to the expected winds emerging around 2 p.m. Taking second overall but winning the White division was Omaha’s Abbie Alexander who absolutely crushed it during the day! She would catch 248.25 inches of bass with her Dad, Tyler right behind with 248 inches. Tyler would finish 2nd in the Red Division. In third place was Kevin Mach with 225.5 inches. Second and third in the White division went to Kyle and Kevin Wagner respectively.

The Big Bass Award sponsored by ZMan Fishing Products went to Chung Pham who landed an 18.5 inch bass. The best five bass were actually caught by Hughes but he did not enter the $30 side pot so that also went to Pham winning $270 for his efforts.
The “Micro Bag” also sponsored by ZMan went to David Hutsel who turned in 43.75 inches on his five smallest bass.

The AOY (Angler of the Year) race came down to the final event as well with Michael Thomas winning the first two events. Hughes and Tyler Alexander were at the best odds going into the final event but Thomas was not able to attend. Hughes ended up earning 100 points and having the highest total for the season with 273.8 points followed by Alexander with 209 points. Based on Thomas’ previous performances, Hughes relinquished the title to Thomas as he would have most likely been in the hunt for the AOY at this event.
Michael Thomas was named Angler of the Year for the Red Division…
In the White Division, Abbie Alexander, a recent high school graduate, was in second place going into this final event behind another newcomer to kayak fishing, Kyle Wagner who is stationed at Offutt Air base near Omaha. Abbie scored 100 points in te Flanagan event to take the lead and win the White Division AOY title.
The AOY points are calculated based not only on an anglers finish but also on their effort from catches. This formula works very well for those principles. It also gives every angler a chance to be in the hunt for the AOY title. For the most part though, consistency is the key to any AOY finish.
There was also a drawing for four great prizes including a kayak from Hoodoo Sports, a fishing rod from Little Miami Outfitters, a Yakattack Black Pack Pro, and a paid entry fee for the Eco Fishing Shop Big Bass 250 this next week which was sponsored by Kayakjak’s Outfitters.
Kevin Wagner won the kayak, Kyle Wagner the Little Miami Fishing Rod, and Kevin Mach won the Yakattack Black Pak. Kevin also won the Eco Fishing Big Bass 250 entry and worked with Ricky Valadez to use it for that event. Congrats to all the winners! We want to thank these sponsors for supporting these events! Thank you Hoodoo Sports, YakAttack, Little Miami Outfitters, ZMan, and Kayakjak’s Outfitters!

We also want to thank those bait makers who helped us put together the Kayakjak’s Bass Kits! LS Lures, FisherKing Baits, Crock-O-Gator, LL Custom Baits, Double Play Sports, 109 Baits, Kayakjak Outdoors, Husky Baits, TM Baits, AAKC Baits, and Revived Bait Company.
